Laser technology
Semiconductor laser technology using IQE's wafers is currently used in:
- CD/DVD applications
- PC Mouse/pointing devices
- Range-finding/levelling devices
- Virtual keyboards
Major emerging applications for semiconductor laser technologies include:
- Laser projection TV
- Laser based projection for office & home cinema
- Laser projection for mobile devices
Solid state lighting (SSL)
Traditional lighting sources create greenhouse gases such as CO2 and Most Governments banning incandescent light bulbs starting in 2009. Compound semiconductor based LEDs or Solid State Lighting (SSL) offers the solution and are estimated to usurp current lighting technologies by 2012. IQE is involved with a number of technology programmes to develop low cost high, efficiency LEDs for general lighting.
